Dad lives three hours away and I could never catch him by the phone. Now I send him a voice message on my lunch break and it's waiting when he walks past. He presses one button to answer, and I hear back before I'm home.

I don't do apps and I never learned to text. Memobox reads my daughter's messages out loud and I just talk back to it. One button — that's the whole thing.

Mom refused a tablet for four years. She said it made her feel like a patient. Memobox doesn't ask her to learn anything, so there was nothing to argue about. Now we use it to talk every single day.

Setup took about four minutes. Nothing for her to install, no account for her to remember. My brother and I both send her reminders, so nobody in the family is the designated nag anymore.

Her pills were the reason I called every single night. Now the reminder comes out of the box at eight and she tells it when she's done. We talk about other things now.

What makes Memobox so special?

Three things, done properly, instead of forty things she has to learn.

  1. A Memobox on a kitchen counter showing a message reading "The kids say hi!"

    Send voice messages

Record a message on your phone and it lands on her Memobox. She presses one button to hear it, and holds it to answer.

  2. A Memobox on a sideboard beside a row of pill bottles

    Help her remember

Set up medication reminders, appointments, and birthdays. They play at the time you choose - in your voice, if you record it.

  3. An older man beside his fireplace with his hand resting on his Memobox

    Hear her voice

Not a text, not a missed call. Her actual voice, whenever she has something to say, waiting for you when you are free.

A simple design by caregivers.

We designed it for our own grandparents first, then took away everything they never used. What is left is a screen you can read from across the room, and one button that does the obvious thing.

  • Send and receive voice messages

  • Personalized daily reminders

  • Easy to use mobile app

  • No complex setup required

1,000+ families love Memo.

Real caregivers, in their own words.

Mom will not touch a smartphone, but she uses this every day. I get a message from her most mornings now.

The medication reminder is the thing. She has not missed a dose since it arrived, and I stopped calling twice a day to check.

I saved a message where Dad was laughing at his own joke. I still play it back.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your loved one presses the one big button, speaks, and lets go. The message arrives on your phone in the Memobox app. When you reply, the box lights up and chimes, and they press the same button to listen.

No. Memobox is the whole device on their end. No phone, no tablet, no account to sign into. Everyone else in the family uses the free app on their own phones.

Plug it in and connect it to Wi-Fi, then download the free app. There is nothing for your loved one to install.

Yes. Schedule medication, appointments, or birthdays in the app and they play at the time you choose, in your own voice if you record it.

Yes. Everyone you invite in the app can send messages, and replies go back to whoever wrote, or to the whole family at once if you set it up that way.

The speaker is built to fill a room rather than an earpiece, and there is a physical volume dial on the device, so nothing is buried in a settings menu.

Yes. Any message can be saved to your own collection and played back later.

No. The device and the app are yours, with no monthly fee.

We make Memobox in batches rather than holding large inventory. When a batch sells out you can pick the next one, or leave your email and we will tell you when it opens.

Memobox has no camera and does not listen to the room. It records only while the button is held down, and we store none of your messages.

No. Memobox is not a medical or clinical device and does not monitor health. It is a way of staying in touch.

The three of us on a bench at Ghirardelli Square in San Francisco

From three grandkids

We weren’t trying to build a product. We just wanted to take care of our grandparents. We saw our grandparents struggle in different ways due to a lack of care and support, even though our families were giving their all.

So, we started designing Memobox as college students at Columbia University, carefully crafting and shipping the first version from our grandma’s house in San Francisco.

Our grandparents loved us into this moment, and loved us into who we are today. We created Memobox as a way of giving back to them, as a way of staying connected with them, and as a way of making sure that we’re never too far away.

Put simply, we built Memobox for our loved ones. Now, we’d love to bring Memobox to your family too. See you soon!
